Dr. Michelle Son, O.D.
Meet Our Optometrist
Dr. Michelle Son is a North Carolina licensed optometrist who provides comprehensive eye exams in English, Spanish, and Korean.
Growing up in sunny Southern California, she earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA before completing her Doctor of Optometry at the SUNY State College of Optometry. She values the diverse clinical experiences that have shaped her foundation in eye care. Her training allowed her to manage complex ocular diseases in SUNY’s Neuro-Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, and Retina clinics, and to focus on pediatrics and vision therapy in Torrance, California. She was also honored to provide primary eye care to United States veterans at the Northport VA Medical Center in New York.
In practice since 2010, Dr. Son focuses on primary optometric care and contact lens fittings, striving to provide compassionate, tailored care for her patients. Community outreach and advocacy have been a meaningful part of her career, from early international mission trips and volunteering at NYC’s Bowery Mission, to working with the Special Olympics and supporting optometric legislation in Albany. Locally, she has proudly partnered with Durham’s Samaritan Health Center since 2012 to help ensure underserved families have access to essential vision care. She serves as a returning Donor Doc with Prevent Blindness NC to deliver essential eye care to underserved individuals in the community. In addition, she partners with the Durham Lions Club, a dedicated local civic organization focused on vision screenings and community support, to provide comprehensive eye exams through their patient referral program.
Outside of work, she loves trying new local restaurants, traveling, enjoying Pilates, creating art, serving at her local church, and spending time with her husband, Peter, and their three children.
Evelin Cabrera
Meet Our Optometric Coordinator
As our Optometric Coordinator, Evelin ensures that every aspect of your visit runs smoothly by bringing exceptional organization and care to every step of the patient journey. She skillfully manages a wide range of responsibilities, including patient intake, clinic coordination, appointment scheduling, comprehensive insurance verification, billing, and patient record management. In addition to conducting essential pre-testing before your exam with Dr. Son, Evelin provides hands-on contact lens training for new wearers and oversees inventory control for our contact lens collections. Whether she is handling administrative tasks, answering questions at the front desk, or walking you through your insurance benefits, Evelin is committed to delivering a welcoming, efficient, and seamless experience from start to finish.
Outside the office, Evelin enjoys spending time with her child and traveling.
